Jairo Amaya-Sorto, 18, was arrested this week by members of the Leesburg Police Department in the unit block of Plaza Street NE following a near monthlong investigation into a reported shooting.

In late May, there were reports of shots fired in the 100 block of Meadows Lane NE and then in an adjoining parking lot in the 800 block of Edwards Ferry Road NE.

No injuries were reported, but two vehicles were damaged by stray bullets.

Following the investigation, Amaya-Sorto was identified as the possible shooter, and he was apprehended on Tuesday, June 27 without incident, police say.

Amaya-Sorto was charged with:

  • Willful discharge of a firearm in a public place;
  • Possession of a firearm by an undocumented individual;
  • Two counts of destruction of property;
  • Possession of a controlled substance.

He was also served on an unrelated warrant out of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Amaya-Sorto is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Detention Center. The shooting remains under investigation.
